Tips for Selecting Wholesale Flowers Online for Your DIY Event:

1. Create a Simple Balance: Choose 1-3 focal flowers, which are large flowers that help create the bouquet shape. Choose 2-3 secondary flowers, which are smaller flowers that fill in space and create texture. Choose 1-2 fillers, which will be used for boutonnieres, corsages, and arrangements. Lastly, choose 1-2 types of greenery that will be the finishing touch to all your arrangements. If this overwhelms you, keep it simple. Order one focal flower, one secondary flower, one filler, and one greenery to mix together for all the arrangements.

Some great focal flowers include roses, garden roses, peonies, lilies, gerbera daisies, hydrangeas, orchids, succulents, calla lilies, football mums, spider mums, cremon mums, stock, and sunflowers. Great secondary flowers include lisianthus, alstroemeria, spray roses, freesia, larkspur, asters, carnations, sweetheart roses, delphinium, dianthus, and allium. For example, the bouquet below demonstrates perfect balance. It includes peonies, garden roses, and dahlias as focal flowers, spray roses as secondary flowers, billy balls as fillers, and dusty miller as greenery.

2. Colors Do Not Have To Be Exact: Select colors that are complementary or shades of your wedding colors. Picking exact colors can lead to trouble. Remember, flowers are part of nature, and each harvest depends on fluctuating environmental conditions. These fluctuations can produce variations in color.

3. There is No Right or Wrong Way: Everyone has different tastes. The great part of ordering your wedding flowers is customizing them to your liking. Floral design is creative, so you can't go wrong, even if you've never arranged flowers before.

4. When in Doubt, Keep It Simple: If all this talk about color, variety, and size is making your head spin, then keep it simple. Create your arrangements with one type of flower. For instance, using only sunflowers at a wedding can be highly impactful yet extremely easy and affordable.

Greenery Tips: Choosing Colors!

We have all been there - the flowers are dyed and ready to be made into a pretty bouquet or arrangement, and we know one greenery style that NEEDS to be included. Then comes that all too familiar question...

What other greenery and/or fillers will work with what is in front of me?!

Using our new paper greenery as inspiration, let's chat about some basic tips that will point you in the right direction!

Our New Paper Greenery Line-Up

We think they are perfect for items like wood rounds, box arrangements, and more! Now onto the choosing greenery tips! First, these are just guidelines for choosing greenery. If something stands out as an amazing option, go for it! Rules were meant to be bent and sometimes broken!

Blue-Toned Greenery

Greenery tends to have either blue or yellow undertones. Eucalyptus generally leans toward the blue, cool tones, and this Multi-Toned Silver Dollar Eucalyptus is no exception! To pull out more of those blueish tones, I added seeded eucalyptus (different leaf shapes provide a great addition), summer eucalyptus (which has blue-tipped "seeds"), and Italian ruscus (to add incredible texture to this group of greenery).

Angel vine at the top center of the greenery wheel picture is a perfect, neutral green that can tie into just about any type of greenery color story!

Remember, these are just guidelines. For example, the flocked dusty miller in the bottom right of the picture on the left above has yellow undertones. By adding summer blooming mix and early blooming mix, we blend greenery colors gradually, making it work with our first selection.

Yellow-Toned Greenery

Yellow undertone greenery, like Israeli Ruscus, works well with warm colors (think bright tropical themes, warm sunsets, traditional fall colors of bright red, orange, and yellow). Large ruscus, summer dreams mix, succulent mix, and smilax also have yellow undertones and complement Israeli ruscus.

When choosing greenery for a project, keep the theme in mind and ask, "Does this fit the XYZ vibe?" If yes, add it to your pile. If not, save it for another day. Mix your selections, and if something doesn't look right, remove it.

Complementary/Contrasting Greenery

Our Paper Leaf - White Sage greenery stands out! It's a light sage color with blue undertones. To ensure it pops, pair it with greenery that highly contrasts or perfectly complements the color.

For contrast, select similar undertones but different darkness. Examples include seeded eucalyptus, ficus (using only the bottom leaves), and olive branch (with darker and complementary leaves).

For complementary pieces, early blooming mix, Italian ruscus, and dusty miller have lighter tips that highlight the beautiful color of the paper greenery.

Muted Greens/Natural Fillers

I love the boho look, which was my immediate thought when Bamboo Leaf came into the shop! Dried natural fillers (phalaris, bunny tails, scabiosa) and preserved bleached fillers (willow eucalyptus and ruscus) pair well. Faux greenery/fillers are great to fill any gaps!

Select faux greenery that complements natural tones, like sage greenery and bamboo leaf, for natural tones, and the olive branch for contrast. The thinner olive leaves offer a contrast without overtaking the color vibe.

Keep Experimenting!

Finding the best greenery and fillers is up to your taste. Follow the guidelines or pick whatever appeals to you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and adjust as needed until you achieve the desired look!
