I have a table that I bought at a parks and rec equipment auction. One thing I like about it is that you can slide in from the end. The table you have pictured, the seat beams would not let that happen. IMO that is the problem with most picnic tables.

the wood on mine is just treated two by lumber. When I bought it, one of the table board were bad and one was bowed real bad. I replaced it all, with new fasteners. It has set out in the weather now for going on ten years or more. I have done nothing more than power wash it a few times a year.

If I was buying a table it would have a clear path between the seat and table. I would look at just trying to buy the hardware for the table and getting what ever wood you want to use.
