Are you treating your bikini area with laser, but not sure how laser hair removal works during a period? Inevitably laser hair removal can fall on the same time as your period may be due. Or sometime periods can be unreliable and all of a sudden it starts on the day of your treatment. And of course for many patients their period are irregular and impossible to track. So what happens if you already booked your laser hair removal treatment for the same day?
Ladies, the good news is that periods are not a medical contra indication to the laser treatment. However it may be more uncomfortable and you prefer to reschedule to a time when you dont feel conscious and worried about an overflow.
Our bodies are all very different, and while some patients dont experience any discomfort during these few days, others may suffer from severe period cramps, bloating or a heavy flow. So the last thing on your mind will be to also get laser and heat over the area that is already causing you discomfort. So its down to your personal preference and what you feel comfortable with. After all the treatment is all about making you feel better in your skin.
Having said that if you feel comfortable enough and happy to wear a tampon we can of course carry out the treatment as usual and your practitioner at Skin Perfection will always make you feel at ease during your treatment.
As the first step of your hair removal journey at Skin Perfection London, we request that you attend a no obligations consultation and skin test. Firstly, this gives you the opportunity to learn more about the process. How does laser hair removal work? Why is it effective?

While is there is no specific protocol with regards to having laser treatment while someone is on their period, we can advise the following. Due to the area being more sensitive, especially when treating the bikini area, it is best not to have treatment if you are on your period. Bear in mind that you will feel a lot more sensitive especially around the bikini area so while it is possible for the therapist to dial down the treatment setting, you will also lose the efficacy of the treatment or at least compromise it. For that reason it is best to have laser treatment when you are not on your period. This applies specifically to laser hair removal. It can also apply to laser tattoo removal if you are having treatment for a tattoo removal especially around that area. Even if you are not being treated in that specific area, it is best to exercise caution and delay your laser treatment. At LaserYou, we offer professional laser services for tattoo removal, hair removal and skin treatments. We offer free consultations Monday to Saturday with either a male or female therapist.
