Before we know how to choose/buy/purchase a LED display, you need to know what is LED display as we shared before:
First, you need to know the specification of the LED display project?
Indoor or outdoor?
The brightness is different for indoor and outdoor different applications. The brightness of the outdoor LED display product is -nits for normal, and -nits for the sunlight project which is sunlight all the days and direct sunlight on the LED display. For the indoor application, the brightness is 900-nits in normal, and 500-600nits for the narrow pixel pitch LED screen project. For special indoor project, it has to be up to nits.
Fixed or rental?
We need to know the LED video wall will be used for fixed installation or rental, because the product will be different. For the rental used, the cabinet will be 500x500mm or 500xmm, For the outdoor fixed the product can be 960x960mm steel cabinet.
What size?
There are 2 ways to know what size you needed. One is just according to the size you want to install. Such as 6x3m LED display size request, then the final size can be similar like 5.76x3.20m.
Another is according to the resolution of the image or video you want to play. The resolution like x720 dots, if the pixel pitch is P5, the final size will be 6.4x3.68m (the closest size to 6.4x3.6m).
What pixel pitch?
There is a most easy way to calculate what pixel pitch you need. The pixel pitch is roughly equals to the minimum viewing distance between you and the screen, such as the minimum viewing distance is 10 meters, the pixel pitch will be P10 you need(or you can choose a slower pixel pitch).
As a video wall device, you have to know how to choose this equipment.
There are 2 important parts for the LED display. One is structure, the other is components.
For the structure, cabinet, module back shell, PCB board is the structure parts which can keep the LED screen stand still. For the components are the LED lamp, IC, power supply, receiving card, connector which can keep the LED screen work longer time.
After we know what LED display is made of, we need to find out what LED display is good and suitable for you.
For the structure part:
Cabinet
1. Material of the cabinet
Empty cabinet is the biggest part to take the space. And the cabinet can be made from different materials like steel, aluminum, die-casting aluminum, Aluminum-magnesium alloy, without cabinet.
Steel is the most widely used for the cabinet, especially for the outdoor fixed installation LED display products, the advantage of steel is cheap and stable. Usually for the outdoor used, the whole screen is big, so the disadvantage is heavy and easy to get rusty. So we need to doing the spray painting on the steel cabinet in the processing.
Aluminum has lower weight in the same size, so for some application which has strict demand of the weight on the building, aluminum cabinet is very suitable. Aluminum cabinet is more to be used on some indoor or outdoor fixed LED screen products.
Die-casting aluminum is widely used in the rental LED display products because the advantage is strong, high precision. The rental LED display product will be assembled and disassembled for each show/event, so the cabinet need to be moved from the flight case to the ground, and connect the cabinet one by one. For the hanging installation, the cabinet will be connected from top to bottom. For the standing installation, the cabinet will be connected from bottom to top. Its more likely the cabinets will be hit each other during the installation, so the cabinet need to strong enough. Also, for the same size rental LED display, different design cabinet has different weight. In 500x500mm cabinet, some final screen cabinet is in 7.5kg/pc, some in 8.5kg/pc. Because how much the material will be used is different. For different design, they have different advantage and disadvantage. For the heavy design, the advantage is the cabinet is stronger in order to keep the whole screen stable, and the disadvantage is taking more power to carry the cabinet. For the light design, the advantage is taking less power to move the cabinet, and the disadvantage is not strong like the heavy one because the less material is used.

Related articles:Aluminum-magnesium alloy is more and more to be used for the rental LED display because it has less cost and less weight than rental LED display and also strong enough to be used for show and event. But the precision is not high like die-casting aluminum.
Besides, there are some installation way no need the cabinet. For the wall mounted indoor fixed installation, the whole wall can be assembled with the steel structure, and the modules, power supply, receiving cards, cables can be mounted directly on the structure. The advantage is less cost. The disadvantages are higher experience demand of the installation, higher lobar cost, the flatness and precision and can not be guaranteed, so usually the pixel pitch higher than P3 is recommended for this installation solution. The pixel pitch less than P2.5, its better to install in cabinet design.

2. Size of the cabinet
There are 2 types of cabinet in size.
One is the standard size. Like rental cabinet, almost all the cabinet size are fixed, like 500x500mm, 500xmm, 576x576mm, 640x640mm, 768x768mm, 960x960mm.
Another is the customized size, the cabinet size can be customized base on the module size. If the module size is 320x160mm, the cabinet size can be 960x960mm, x800mm or 640xmm...
Module back shell
There 3 types of module back shell, aluminum material, plastic material, no module back shell.
For the closed cabinet design, there is no need to use the module back shell, because this design is very good for the heat dissipation which hot air can goes out and cool air can goes in the cabinet.
For the hollow cabinet design, module back shell is needed.
For some high-end fixed installation project, the aluminum material module back shell is good for the heat dissipation which the heat of the LEDs and IC, PCB can dissipated via aluminum to the air directly which is good for the life span of the LED screen.
For the rental LED screen products, almost all the back shell is in plastic design, the advantage is high weight and cost effective. Whats more, Dazzview LED display will use the high quality module back shell to guarantee the flatness and heat dissipation.
PCB
PCB(Printed Circuit Board) is a board contain LED lamp, IC which also include the circuit diagram. There are 2 layers, 4 layers are most common PCB to be used in LED display industry. 4 layers PCB is in much higher price and better heat dissipation. For the normal pixel pitch(bigger than P2.5), 2 layers has advantage in price, so 2 layers PCB is more often to be used. For some narrow pixel pitch LED display, 4 layers PCB will be more recommended.
For the components part:
LED lamp
The biggest quantity in pieces to be used is LED lamp. So the LED lamp is the most important part of LED display. There are several companies doing the LED package, the first class in global is Nichia, Cree. However, the price is also super high, the price is too high to affordable by most of the customers. There are also some good LEDs package brand. As the tranditional 1st class level in China is Nationstar, and 1st (2nd+) class is Kinglight, 2nd level is Hongsheng, KN-light, 3rd is Mulinsen, Xinlei, Huaguang. Now, the quality distance is not big as before, they are much closer. What LED lamp will Dazzview LED display use? For the outdoor fixed installation, we will use Nationstar LEDs as our first choice. For the indoor fixed and rental LED display, Kinglight will be our first choice, For some creative LED display products mainly for visual effect, Hongsheng LED will be choose as first choice.
IC
Hz and Hz is the refresh rate of the LED screen, it is depend on the scanning theory and IC type. For the rental LED display used, like indoor P2.6 or P3.9, Hz is highly recommended. For outdoor P3.9, Hz is first choose, and for the outdoor P4.8, both Hz and Hz can be choose according to the project. Dazzview has a lot of experience in choosing the stable IC. SM, ICN, MBI, FM are recommended for the Hz. ICNS, SM, ICNs, MBI, FM/FM are recommended for the Hz. The most important is provided a most suitable solution according to your project.
Power supply
Many years ago, there are many people demand of the Meanwell power supply because the quality is good. Yes, the quality is good indeed. But the price is much higher and its not suitable for all the LED display products. Nowadays, more and more Chinese brand doing good in the power supply industry, like Powerld, CL-power, RX power, G-energy, Siqi power... After testing, Dazzview LED use the most stable and cost effective power supply for the LED screen products.
Receiving card
Novastar, Linsn, Colorlight, Huidu, SY solution, Listen Vision... all can be used as the control system. That control system to be used is according the applicate solution.
Aviation Connector
Neutrik is very expensive for the price, I dont like most of the customer will need it. Seetronic and CNLinco is very good choice for the quality and affordable.
