Among cosmetic packaging materials, glass bottles are increasingly recognized by the market due to their remarkable features. This is mainly because the use of glass bottles has the following advantages:

1. The glass material is lead-free and harmless, and has good barrier performance. It can well prevent various gases from oxidizing and eroding the objects in the bottle, and at the same time can effectively prevent the volatile components of the objects in the bottle from volatilizing.

2. Glass bottles can be recycled and used repeatedly, which reduces the packaging cost of enterprises and is also conducive to environmental protection.

3. The glass texture is transparent, and the interior material is clearly visible. The "appearance + effect" conveys a high-end feeling to consumers.

4. Glass bottles are safe and hygienic, non-toxic and harmless, have good corrosion resistance and acid corrosion resistance, and have special packaging advantages for the cosmetics industry.

The application of glass bottles in cosmetics (cream bottles, essence, toner, essential oil bottles)

Glass bottles used in cosmetics are mainly divided into: skin care products (creams, lotions), foundations, perfumes, essential oils, and nail polishes. Those with a capacity greater than 200ml are rarely used in cosmetics.

Glass bottles are divided into wide-mouth bottles and narrow-mouth bottles.

Solid pastes are generally used in wide-mouth bottles, which should be equipped with anodized aluminum caps or plastic caps. The caps can be used for color spraying effects, such as cream bottles, mask bottles and other commonly used jars;

Narrow-mouth bottles are generally used for emulsions or water-based pastes, which should be equipped with a pump head. If a cap is used, an inner plug should be added to prevent leakage. Aqueous agents should be equipped with small-hole inner plugs, and thicker emulsions should be equipped with large-hole inner plugs.

Essential oil bottles are usually made of brown or colored matte, which can be protected from light. The lid has a safety ring and can be equipped with an inner stopper or dropper. Perfume bottles are generally equipped with delicate spray pump heads or plastic lids.

The combination is as follows:

1. Cream bottle series: glass bottle body + double-layer plastic outer cover (general capacity is 10g-50g)

2. Essence series: glass bottle body + plastic pump head or anodized aluminum pump head (general capacity is 20 to 100ml)

3. Toner series: glass bottle body + plastic inner plug + outer cover (more than 100ml, there are also those with pump heads)

4. Essential oil bottle series: glass bottle body + inner plug + big head cap or plastic head + dropper + anodized aluminum cap

Cosmetic Glass Bottle Processing Technology

  • Coloring Process

1. Anodized aluminum: The outer surface of aluminum is wrapped with a layer of plastic on the inner layer of plastic.

2. Electroplating (UV): Compared with spraying, the effect is brighter.

3. Spraying: Compared with electroplating, the color is dull.

Spraying on the outside of the inner bottle: it is spraying on the outside of the inner bottle, there is an obvious gap between the outer bottle and the outer bottle from the outside, and the spraying area is small when viewed from the side.

Spraying inside the outer bottle: It is spray-painted on the inner side of the outer bottle. It looks larger from the outside, but smaller when viewed from the vertical plane, and there is no gap with the inner bottle.

4. Brushed gold-coated silver: It is actually a film, and you can find the joint gap on the bottle body if you observe carefully.

5. Secondary oxidation: Secondary oxidation is carried out on the original oxide layer, so that the smooth surface is covered with dull patterns or the dull surface has smooth patterns, which are mostly used for logo production.

6. Injection color: Toner is added to the raw materials when the product is injected. The process is relatively cheap, and pearl powder can also be added. Adding cornstarch will make the transparent color of PET become opaque.

  • Printing Process

1. Silk screen printing: One is high-temperature ink screen printing, which is characterized by not easy to decolorize, duller color, and difficult to produce purple toning effect; the other is low-temperature ink screen printing, brighter color, higher requirements for ink, otherwise It is easy to fall off, and attention should be paid to the disinfection of the bottle.

2. Hot stamping: a thin layer of paper is hot stamped on it, so there is no unevenness of silk screen printing.

Hot stamping is best not to be directly on the two materials of PE and PP. It needs to be heat transfered first and then hot stamped, or it can be hot stamped directly with good hot stamping paper.

3. Water transfer printing: It is an irregular printing process carried out in water. The printed lines are inconsistent and the price is more expensive.

Order and transportation of cosmetic glass bottles

The production cycle of glass bottles is long, and it takes 20 days if it is as fast as possible, and 45 days for some, and the general order quantity is 5,000 to 10,000. Cost-Effectiveness: Plastic remains a budget-friendly option in the cosmetics packaging industry. Its lower production costs make it an attractive choice for brands looking to manage expenses without compromising design.

Barrier Properties: Plastic packaging is a mini-fortress that protects cosmetics from moisture, air, and contaminants. This ensures the longevity and efficacy of the cosmetic products within.

    Disadvantages of Plastic Packaging

Environmental Concerns: The primary downside of plastic is its environmental impact. Plastic pollution and varied recycling rates pose significant challenges, spurring a movement towards eco-friendly cosmetic packaging solutions.

    Plastic Environmental Concerns

Chemical Leaching: Certain types of plastic can leach chemicals into cosmetic products, raising concerns about product purity and safety.

Perceived Quality: In the luxury segment, plastic packaging is often perceived as less premium than glass or metal, affecting brand positioning.
